Local author and Grand Valley State University professor Kathryn Remlinger will discuss her book "Yooper Talk: Dialect as Identity in Michigan's Upper Peninsula." In her book, based on sixteen years of fieldwork, Remlinger examines how the idea of a unique Yooper dialect emerged and explores how the dialect became a valuable commodity, easily recognized on everything from flags to mugs to bumper stickers. A book signing will follow the presentation, with copies available for sale by The Bookman of Grand Haven. Co-sponsored by the Department of English, Grand Valley State University.
